What Is a Tofu-kozo?
Tofu-kozo, also written as Tofu Kozo, is a small, childlike yokai from Japanese folklore. Its name means “tofu boy,” referring to its unusual habit of carrying or offering tofu.
In traditional Japanese illustrations and stories, Tofu-kozo is often depicted wearing a large bamboo hat and carrying a plate of tofu. The tofu is sometimes decorated with a small leaf symbol, making this mysterious little creature easy to recognize.
Unlike many frightening creatures from Japanese folklore, Tofu-kozo is generally portrayed as a strange but relatively harmless yokai. Its quiet appearance and unusual connection to tofu make it one of the more distinctive characters in the world of Japanese supernatural folklore.
Our Tofu-kozo coloring pages offer a cute and friendly interpretation of this traditional character. With a big hat, pointed ears, a charming Japanese-inspired outfit, and a gentle smile, our little Tofu-kozo enjoys peaceful adventures, from collecting autumn leaves to relaxing on a wooden veranda.
